janet.murdock@un.orgUN-UG International Peace Day Public Lecture
Each year the International Day of Peace is observed around the world on 21 September. The UN General Assembly has declared this as a day devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace and the observance of 24 hours of non-violence and cease-fire. The 2022 theme for the International Day of Peace is “End racism. Build peace.”

About the event
The United Nations family and the University of Guyana will mark International Peace Day with a free online public lecture. The UN’s Peace and Development Advisor in Guyana, Janet Murdock, will deliver an interactive lecture on “Peace Vocabulary” to explore both contextualized and UN-accepted academic meanings of key terminology from the field of peace and development studies.
In addition, the University of Guyana will open access to its Human Relations course to the public, free of cost. Through these activities we hope to promote a shared understanding of important words from the field of peace and development that are relevant for researchers, practitioners, and the general public, thereby contributing to enhanced communication and - by extension – collaborative problem-solving and positive social discourse.
