Twenty-Two Master Trainers Graduate to Advance Guyana's Energy Transition

Guyana has taken another significant step towards building a skilled green workforce with the graduation of 22 Master Trainers under the Joint SDG Fund: Energy Transition Seed Funding Project.

Implemented through a partnership between the International Organization for Migration (IOM) Guyana, the Board of Industrial Training (BIT), the Guyana Energy Agency (GEA), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Guyana and the United Nations Resident Coordinator's Office, the initiative has strengthened national capacity in electric vehicle (EV) maintenance, renewable energy technologies and solar-powered EV charging infrastructure.

The programme exceeded its original target by certifying 22 Master Trainers from Regions 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 10. Equipped with both technical expertise and modern instructional skills, the graduates will play a critical role in preparing the next generation of technicians to support Guyana's transition to cleaner and more sustainable energy systems.

A major milestone of the project was the development and official handover of two national training curricula on Electric Vehicle Systems and Solar PV-Powered Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure. These curricula will strengthen Guyana's Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) system by providing standardized, industry-relevant training programmes that respond to the country's evolving energy and workforce needs.

The Joint SDG Fund project supports Guyana's efforts to accelerate a just and inclusive energy transition by investing in workforce development, technical innovation and institutional capacity. By strengthening national skills in emerging green technologies, the initiative contributes to the country's broader sustainable development and climate objectives while creating new opportunities for employment and economic growth.

The graduation ceremony brought together representatives from the Government of Guyana, United Nations agencies, technical institutions, the private sector and development partners to celebrate the achievements of the graduates and reaffirm their shared commitment to supporting Guyana's energy transition.
